Thailand's Sermsang Power turns sod on 150-MW Philippine wind farm

A unit of Thailand-based renewable power producer and distributor Sermsang Power Corporation Public Co Ltd (SSP) has launched the construction of a 150-MW wind farm in the Philippines' Negros Occidental province.

The milestone was marked by an official groundbreaking ceremony, the Thai firm announced, sying it will implement the project via its Philippine-based subsidiary Bago Negros Energy Corporation (BNEC).

The Bago wind farm will be built in Bago City and will be its largest wind project, covering seven villages where its 23 turbines will be sites. The plant’s construction is expected to take about a year, with commercial operations planned to be achieved by 2027.

The project will be executed in line with SSP's five-year roadmap to scale its total installed capacity to 1,000 MW. Being active in Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Mongolia, the Philippines and Taiwan, the Thai group owns solar, wind, biomass and waste-to-energy plants. It says on its website it currently owns 367 MW of capacity in operation and is developing a further 425 MW.
